SAM GILLICK

I’m Sam Gillick, creator, designer and manufacturer of SAMM furniture. My ethos is simple – I aspire to longevity in all its forms – the timeless, the elegant, the durable, the stainless - all things that stand the test of time are things which have overcome their mere materiality. They ought to become a good idea, a steady hand, resolute determination and precise execution seen to its superlative end. 

I approach design with a type of playful severity, no doubt an attitude heavily influenced by my personal heroes – the names of whom you may notice brandished throughout the various SAMM collections. There are things that I will allow to bend, such as finish, detail and form, but all must surrender to the overarching principle of exquisite quality. All my furniture pieces have maker’s marks; they are to be forever aligned with my reputation.

If, as Locke says, ‘the actions of men are the best interpreters of their thoughts’, then it must stand that their work is an echo of their honour. Hence the materials used in each SAMM piece have been meticulously selected, sourced and finished; there’s more being sent out the delivery doors than mere matter after all.
